Dr. Shad will speak on the concept of food as medicine, why it is important, and how it applies to our current challenges in health care. He will also share how he is redesigning medical education to include Culinary Medicine as an innovative tool to increase nutrition in health professional education and address food insecurity in communities suffering from diet sensitive diseases like type 2 Diabetes. Dr. Shad will also share some of the community outreach work he and his students are doing right here in Phoenix.
Dr. Shad Marvasti, MD, MPH currently serves as associate professor and director of public health, prevention and health promotion at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix and professor of public health at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. He is also the founding director of The Culinary Medicine Program.
