Dr. Hanin Bearat is originally from Palestine. She grew up in France and Switzerland before moving to the US. In her senior year of high school, she attended BME Day at ASU and became fascinated with Biomedical Engineering. She graduated from ASY and the Barrett Honors College with degrees in Biomedical Engineering and French. While an undergrad, she started researching in the biomaterials lab and decided to pursue research. She got her PhD in BME from ASU, focusing on biomaterials for brain aneurysm treatment. After finishing her PhD, she pursued postdoctoral research in tissue engineering at Duke University. Deciding to change career paths, Hanin joined Medtronic, the largest medical device company in the world. She held engineering roles in Quality and Product Development and is currently a Program Manager in Technology. Hanin is an advocate for STEM and ID&E, leading organizations that focus efforts in both academia and industry. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her husband and two boys, traveling and exploring the world, and enjoying tasty foods and international music.
